The Italian city of Berg is experiencing its hottest January on record, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit).

Berg, which has been hosting football tournaments for almost 70 years, has seen temperatures soaring above the 30 degree Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) mark in recent days, the National Climate Centre reported.

The centre said that the city had reached a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius in some parts of the city, which is also home to the famous Berg Arena.

Berg is currently hosting the UEFA Europa League semi-final between Napoli and Borussia Dortmund in the Berg Arena, with the game scheduled to kick off at 6pm (local time) on Tuesday.
