‘A lot of things were destroyed’: New Mexico’s first Ebola patient dies of COVID-19

New Mexico is on pace to have its first Ebola death in its history on Monday, the state health department said.

The death of a woman who died of the virus in the state’s hospital was confirmed Monday morning, and the death toll will rise as the number of new cases increases, the department said in a statement.

A second person who had been admitted to the hospital on Monday has tested positive, according to the department.

The department is monitoring the outbreak, which has been linked to the New Mexico City area.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said it has had a total of 563 confirmed cases of Ebola in the U.S. so far.

The U.N. estimates that 1,831 have died.
